Leggings/Yoga Pants: For Home, Plane, Office.....??????

Vince has some longer sweaters that work great with leggings. For long cardigans, nothing beats Eileen Fisher.

Today, I am wearing a short (by my standards) DVF shirtdress with Align pant and tall boots. Comfy and professional.

I look horrendous in anything that is belted. All my weight (and what I have gained back, ugh) sits in my middle. I look like big bird! I got an Irma and it’s ok, but kind of shapeless on me. Not roomy enough on me to tie up. It will be great when I re-lose the big chunk I’ve gained back. :frowning:

Still looking for a Sarah I like.

I don’t like belted pieces on me either.

Count me in on the no belting. I look terrible.

Funny about belts… If I wear a fitted at the waist dress, I llook like I have an hourglass figure, but if I add a belt, the whole outfit becomes shapeless.

I only wear belts with a longer sweater or jacket over the dress. My problem is I am so very short waisted that the belt looks like I’ve got it under my boobs and the boobs are no where near as high as they once were which compounds the belt situation so I throw a sweater over the whole thing which helps and keep my belts quite neutral to the outfit, same thing happens with high contrast tops tucked into skirts unless I wear a sweater or jacket… it is the body I got and it was built for hip huggers in the 70s so I just make do as best as I can. I would kill for a longer torso and shorter legs.

Another one who looks terrible in anything belted. Most of my weight is in the middle regardless if I weigh 110 or 165. Plus my pelvis is rotated and one hip sits higher and belted waist items don’t look good. I’m straight from waist to hips and I have no bust.
@emilybee - I had my friend stop at a Splendid outlet and she picked up v neck white T for me. It has a longer tail and covers the butt but in the front isn’t that long. I like it but I would still like to find something narrower. I look best in straight up and down lines.

I have abnormally large legs, even at a perfect body weight for me. Since I’m quite a lot over that perfect body weight, I would not dream of putting on what are virtually tights and going out in public in them. Yes, I’m jealous as I have been my entire life of people who have normal or thin legs and look good in slim clothing. I love the look of leggings with tunics. I don’t care for the leggings as pants especially on larger ladies. But of course, people should wear whatever they like and is comfortable.

For the first time ever today, I wore leggings, a J Jill tunic, and black booties out as an “outfit.” I felt a little funny, but I’m sure I looked just fine. I would not feel comfortable wearing something like this to work, but for casual outings I may do it again.

@mom60,

You should just go to a shop (try a boutique) and try several different brands on. Then go online to see if you can get them cheaper. I usually buy all mine when my shop puts them on the sakes racks because I don’t like spending $100+ for a tee shirt…

It appears I shop at lower end merchants compared to the CC crowd.

But…I love legging and a tunic. I have many pairs of Matty leggings from Costco. They are thick, hold their shape and have a nice wide waist band that doesn’t constrict.

I have found a number of really cute tunic tops at Old Navy. For the younger crowd, these are dresses. At my age and height - 5"8" - they work very well as tunics. This is my recent favorite…http://oldnavy.gap.com/browse/product.do?cid=15292&vid=1&pid=495232012.

This one works well too.

I’m not looking for investment pieces to be worn for years to come.

I wear “jeggings” from Costco, Calvin Klein brand, I think. They’re fine with long tshirts or tunics. I have a pair of Matty leggings from Costco bit haven’t worn them much. I mainly wear jeans or ponte pants most of the time–that way I don’t have to think of how long my shirts are.

I’m still about the same height and weight I was over the past 37 years, BMI of about 22, so I can wear snug fashions just fine. I don’t spend much on clothing, since I find the stuff from Costco serves me admirably.

Doesn’t matter if you have expensive taste or moderate taste - as long as you have taste.

Just to chime in on the belt discussion - I have never been comfortable wearing a belt. Ever! They feel so confining to me - might as well put a vice around my neck! I don’t own a single one.

I was walking through a medical building the other day when I was stopped by someone asking about my tights/leggings (not thick, but footless). She said she like them because they were opaque and they didn’t crease and looked fitted but not skin tight. I own several Athleta leggings of various weights/lengths - but the ones she commented on happen to be from Target - and I have worn them and washed them regularly for the last 3 years!

@emilybee- I have a nice Splendid outlet 45 minutes from me. I just rarely head that direction. The T my friend picked up was 65% off. The funny thing is my youngest D loves Splendid and James Perse t shirts. I pick them up for her when I see them at Marshalls. The ones she likes aren’t long just a standard t shirt. What I don’t like about buying Splendid online is that their sizing is all over the map.
My favorite long t shirts are from Anthropologie. I haven’t liked as well the ones I’ve bought the last couple of years. Just a tad tent like.

@mom60, I also grab JP, Vince and Velvet whenever I see them in Marshall’s or TJMaxx. One can never have too many nice tee’s!

Try Michael Stars.

I am a normal weight for height but I struggle finding the balance in non work wear finding the balance at age 60 between looking like I am wearing maternity clothes and Maude. I found a looser look for work is ok but a more form fitted casual look out of the office works better for me. It is a challenge for sure between dressing like a 20 year old or looking like an old lady.

I wore a JJill tunic, leggings and booties today!
@dietz, that’s the sort of stuff I am looking for. Now to lose weight so I can fit into it!
Should order a pair of the Matty XXL leggings and see how they fit. The ones at the store look really small to me.

I find the Matty leggings to run true to size. I tend to go with a medium - even though a small would technically fit. I simply can not stand tight, binding clothing - especially around the midriff.

I walked thru Old Navy again today. They have a great selection of flowy tunic/dress tops. H&M is another source of similar type items. They’re fun for a year or two.

Spent the entire day running errands in my black with ankle college logo leggings, Vince cashmere sweater, and moto boots. Visited a paint store, a lighting store, and my local Costco. Phew… It was a long day, but the comfy and cool looking outfit made it a little less tiring.

I’m not opposed to bargains, but I find Old Navy and even Gap quality to be so poor in recent years that I just don’t even go in.
