Lehigh Class of 2030 Official RD Thread

It is considered a honors program and selective. If you google it you can find detailed information about course requirements. It is an intense program. You pick either a business or engineering major and then you have other required classes in business, math/science, and IBE core.

Did you find the merit $ information in the portal? If so where? Perhaps if my daughter isn’t finding anything it means nothing offered?

merit is under the admission decision letter in the portal. need based aid is in a different area. only around 30 percent of incoming students receive merit.

No, we did not to ED. We could not commit to Lehigh without knowing financials. Its why I believe ED is so unfair. Sorry, I can’t just plunk down $90K.

Biochemistry.

Not sure if this was directed at me, but yes, I’m aware. “A good college counselor” - ok, well we can’t afford that, just like we can’t afford to apply ED without knowing financials. My daughter’s essays were amazing, and her one recommender told us she is the most outstanding student he’s ever had. So yeah, who knows why she was waitlisted.

Wasn’t directed at you but people in general. The listing of GPA and test score with confusion is far too common. Generally it’s because many are not aware of the CDS and that each school values things differently. In Lehigh’s case, test scores are not the most important so tailoring the application to what Lehigh values most vs what another school values can get a student a leg up. Many will fill out the common app and blast submit it to all their choices. It’s a common error applicants make. Was her “recommender” a former AO? If not, the sample size they are giving you might be pretty small. Former AOs who go into consulting after have seen tens of thousands of applications. Yes, some are expensive. Some are a few hundred dollars.

Most high schools have counselors who help the kids get into college. Free of charge. We paid a former AO $300 to look at the app and one school’s essays and give critique. Given the fact school is going to cost over $100k in the best situation a few hundred, we felt, was a good investment. We didn’t pay this for more than one school. We took their advice and was able to shape it to other schools. We then had a teacher who was a former professor help her with her essay. All of this is how we learned about the CDS and changing the app for each school. Additionally, learned how one essay to a school might not be a great essay for another depending on the culture of the school. Despite the fact the essay theme was almost exactly the same. Like, “Why major?”

No college is worth their asking price. Definitely not Lehigh. Many kids will see no merit money in their RD admission and pass which will open up a spot on the waitlist. That is why we didn’t apply ED and are passing on admission. With no merit money $90k per year is absurd. If it were Yale or Harvard I’d figure out how to pay for it but not a lower tiered school. There is still hope if your daughter really wants to go there. I wouldn’t give up if it’s a top choice

She has happily moved on and will be attending Penn State after an awesome accepted students day. She LOVES it and so do we! And honestly? The Penn State name carries much more weight nationally than Lehigh does and the alumni network is huge. Even my Lehigh husband agrees with that.

That is great to hear. We went to one of the accepted students days too. It’s a great school.

Good luck to her.
