You couldn’t make this stuff up: [Sophomore Class President Arrested for Bank Robbery](http://www.cnn.com/2005/LAW/12/13/student.robber.ap/index.html). And the Student Senate president drove the getaway car, but didn’t know anything about the robbery…

Read about it in the school newspaper:
The Brown & White http://www.bw.lehigh.edu/

Undiagnosed BiPolar patient or 5 Card Stud Poker Debt? We need to hear from some insiders about this…just what every school wants. And another student, student senate president, drove him…defense is he had no idea. Son of a Baptist minister. What is the real story??

online poker is the reason.

person driving vehicle did not know - he was giving Hogan a ride to the bank …“to cash a check”.

sad story…

This is a sad story. My heart goes out to him. It hurts to even think about the turmoil he must have been suffering about paying back the debt. While most kids were worrying about exams, he was truly worrying about more horrible issues. I truly hope that things work out for him for the best, and that he can get a fresh start. He sounds like a really good kid that just got caught up in the online gambling stuff.

True, but this is such a serious offense he has to have some type of punishment.
It’s a shame that he felt that was his only option…
It will be interesting to see if he returns to Lehigh. He’s not there for exams this week.

How long did this take? I am asking how long has Hogan been playing poker? Was this a one semester development or a three year development? It seems incomoprehensible that nobody knew he was escalating his behavior? How long was he online for example? I am curious to know more because I am sure this is a bigger problem just waiting to crop up in the news other places and other ways.

As far as the law goes, I don’t know what the punishment should be. However, I think Lehigh should take this opportunity to really help him, themselves, and other students nationwide out. First, if he indeed has a gambling habit, explore why and how that happened. At the the same time, start curing him of the habit. I guess with “Gamblers Anonomous” or whatever (if there is one in the Lehigh area). Then, hopefully, he will recognize and try to “cure” the habit. His “punishment” should be to lecture and try to set up some type of program for other kids with this “problem”. Start at the local level, and then it can move onwards towards a more generalized area. All in all, I think he should be helped, and then everyone involved should try to turn this into a positive and learning experience.

I don’t know this kid, but he really could have been anyone’s child. It seems as though (at least from the media) that he was truly a good, good kid. His only problem was that he sat down in front of the computer and got sucked into this horrible world of on-line gambling crap…which everyone and their mother is involved with. You can’t even open a Macy’s circular without seeing a Texas Poker type chips and cards things “On Sale Now for $49”. This is a big, big problem. I think Lehigh can turn this into a positive learning experience not only for their students, but all students (high school and college) nationwide.

I truly hope things work out for him. He deserves another chance.

and he will get his chance when he is finished serving his federal prison sentance…just about the time he is 40 years old.

Lehigh is such a dump. All this stuff about it being a great school give me a break ok? It was always a dump and it still is. Look at the location and who is there. Now the class officer is arrested. Total white trash school for sure. GOOOOOOOO VANDERBILT! Now that is an awesome school!
