Lehigh Or Umass

I’ve been admitted to both universities for business and, obviously, am struggling between the two. Price isn’t a concern for me so I do understand that by most metrics Lehigh is better but I am concerned by the reputation Lehigh has given itself. I wouldn’t characterize myself as being anti partying by any means but I’m not particularly keen on joining a frat and if I did the main concern would be hazing. While I know that the university claims to have been cracking down, there hasn’t been anything recently that has suggested or refuted this claim.

If you think that UMass would be a better cultural and social fit for you, that is reason enough to choose it.

Which metrics are you referring to?

UMass Isenberg is very well-respected. I’m not sure there’s a meaningful difference in terms of what doors one degree will open vs. the other. What you personally accomplish while you’re in college will have a much bigger impact than any perceived reputational difference (which may vary anyway, depending on who’s doing the perceiving).

As for party culture, there’s plenty to be found on either campus, but also plenty of alternatives. Since UMass is larger, there are probably more sub-communities to choose from and find your niche. If you’re generally finding UMass more appealing, then go there! An Isenberg degree won’t limit you in any way. Wherever you’re able to be your best self, connect best with your college community, and distinguish yourself both academically and in terms of extracurricular pursuits, will put you on the best trajectory for the future. There’s truly no need to feel that you should choose either school over the other; choose wherever you would more look forward to attending!

Look at the majors within the 2 business schools. They’re not the same. Each offers some majors which the other diesn’t. For example, if you want Supply Chain Management, an important emerging field, UMass doesn’t have it; you can only get that at Lehigh. OTOH, if you want Hospitality & Tourism Management or Sport Management, it’s not happening at Lehigh. You can only get those at UMass.

Another note is that UMass comes with a bonus - the 5 college consortium with cross registration privileges. Amherst College, in particular, is just down the street, offering the opportunity to select from a broad curriculum classes with world class professors and small class size to enrich your experience at UMass.

Your post suggests that you would feel more comfortable at U Mass.

There are a lot of male students not in greek life. There are lots of other clubs active on campus to find friends.
