Lehigh Supplement "If you founded your own college..."

Here’s the question: If you founded your own college or university, what topic of study would you make mandatory for all students to study and why? What would be the values and priorities of your institution and why?

This is my first draft:
“Come ON, Michael!” my brother urged me as we walked along Broadway. I had stopped to gaze up in awe at an interesting building that appeared to be modeled after the Gothic style. “Give me one second!” I said. Lately, buildings and paintings I see have started jumping out to me. Even with my very basic knowledge of art that I gained from a one-semester course on art history, I now understand the philosophy behind many works of art and architecture and can appreciate the beauty of these works as I never have before. If I were to found my own college or university, I would make study of art history mandatory, because I believe it gives people a special pair of spectacles that enables them to see the world in a beautiful, new light.
I feel that anything produced by people is art to some extent and that therefore, art is all around us. Art is important to learn about because we are constantly surrounded by it, and being able to see it and identify its meaning is to add new meaning to life. By learning art history, I have become more aware of the art around me, and have come to see new beauty in ordinary things.
My institution would value passion and self-expression. Art is the product of these, and by recognizing the value in art, one can recognize the value in passion and self-expression. When people show who they are through their passions, they are unknowingly producing art, both enriching the lives of others and personally benefiting by living authentic lives.

I feel like there isn’t clean transition between paragraphs and that it doesn’t have such a clear focus; it kind of seems to me as if I make separate points in each paragraph and don’t really relate them? Or maybe I’m completely wrong. What do you think?
