Leonardo DiCaprio set to portray famous Michigan alum in his next movie

Ok, so it is not necessarily something to be proud of since the alum in question happens to be one of America’s first documented, and certainly one of its most prolific and twisted, serial killers!

DiCaprio will play the role of Dr. H. H. Holmes, an alumnus of the University of Michigan’s medical school back in the late 19th century. He then moved to Chicago and made a killing!

Go…errrr…Blue?

There was a point when the movie was projected to be called something like: “Devil in the White City”.

It is based on the book Devil in the White City. The white city being the Chicago Worlds Fair.

I hope it will be a good one. With Scorsese directing, it should be good. I am hoping for a Silence of the Lambs type approach.

Aw, for a second I was hopeful that it was going to be about the notorious Eugenicist (and all around terrible guy) that the U continues to proudly identify with [CC Little].

Sounds interesting though. I love DiCaprio’s previous biopics so I’ll be waiting for this one!

I read the bio on Holmes. An absolutely deplorable human being.

romanigypseyes, I doubt a movie on CC Little would garner sufficient interest from the general public. That being said, I agree that he was a pretty terrible guy, not just for his stance in Eugenics, but also for his support of the Tobacco lobby, although it is hard to apply modern day morality to 19th and early 20th century standards.

Still, I don’t think that his shortcomings were sufficient to erase his service to the University as president, or the removal of his name from the building in Central Campus.

rjk, HH Holmes was a monster. I hope Scorsese and DiCaprio do a good job of it.
