Teacher and counselor recs will be stellar. My essays should be pretty good too.

What are my chances at schools like:
Amherst
Williams
Swarthmore
Harvard
Yale
Princeton
Stanford
MIT
Columbia
UPenn
Brown
NYU
UChicago
Northwestern

I don’t intend to apply to all of those.

In addition… any suggestions as to safety schools?

is your sat score a superscore? because (correct me if i’m wrong) it’s impossible to get a 9 on the essay and 800 on the writing section.

No, it’s not superscored, though it was my second time taking the SATs (I did better on all 3 sections my 2nd time). A 9 on the essay and an 80 MC score from the June SAT got you an 800. I was surprised too. :)

you got lucky-most conversion charts would give you a 780.

Yeah, but it’s still an 800. Not that the 20 points would make a huge difference.

Fabulous stats (though some schools do the top 2 thing) with drab ECs. I think you’ll get into some lower ivies and that level school and maybe HYP with phenomenal recs and essays.

Geography, income and other factors are huge for a candidate like you. If you’re from Nebraska and poor you have a waaayyyy better chance than if you’re upper middle class from NY, NJ, MA or CA.

No matter where you’re from, as a girl, I think you have a good shot at MIT.

Yeah… upper middle class from NJ, actually. But a “lower” ivy is more than good enough for me.

Though out of curiosity, which do you consider “lower”? Columbia? Penn? I like these two more than Cornell, Dartmouth, or Brown…

And for my class rank, if I had been a member of ANY graduating class in the past 6-7 years, I would have been valedictorian, but our class is uber-competitive, so I’m stuck at #3. >.<

And my recs- one is from my Chem teacher (I want to go into chem) saying that I am the best student he has ever had (I had a 99 average for the year… 2 points higher than anyone in his past 15 years of teaching), one is the mandatory one from my English teacher (for our school that’s mandatory) and says that I can write and I am very responsible when it comes to things like the play, etc…, and the 3rd is from my French teacher, who loves me because I’m the only one who pays attention in that class (and I actually took the AP test, which never happens in our school). She told me to tell her everything I want her to put in the recommendation, so I have a lot of control over this one.

What do you think about the top LACs that are on my list?.. What kind of chances do I have there?

bump? i’ve only gotten one real response…

chance at getting in EVERYWHERE.

show a focus in ur ECs which i don’t have, goshdarn it) and u’ve got good chance everywhere.
