Hey Everyone, with 5 days until the decisions are officially released from Emerson College, I am hoping to receive some feedback as to whether or not I have a legitimate possibility of being admitted to Emerson. I feel my grades are a tad bit below Emerson’s average, but decent enough. Hopefully, my experience in the journalism field can impress in the admissions process as I applied to their journalism program.

GPA: Around an 87 average (unweighted). My school is on a 4.5 GPA scale so not sure how to convert it.
ACT: 22
AP/Honors Courses: AP English Language, AP English Lit, English 2 Honors, German 3 Honors, Greek 1 Honors, Algebra 2 Trig Honors, Biology Honors
School: Well Respected Private School On East Coast
Recommendations: Both Of My Teachers Recs Are Excellent, Very Personal. One was from my AP English teacher that I’ve had both years, and the other is my history teacher whom I am very close with.

Activities/Accomplishments: To put into the best words possible, I am a freelancer/professional journalist. I have been writing about sports since my freshman year, and began writing at BleacherReport.com. Over my high school career, I have
written for sites affiliated with ESPN.com, which lasted almost a year.

My career has taken off while at BleacherReport, which I returned to after pursuing other opportunities. My blog has hit over a million article reads over the last 3 years. Last year, I covered the Baltimore Ravens for a blog on NFL.com. That blog was run by a Northwestern alumnus, and some freshman at the Medill school also contributed to the site.

I’ve had articles published or linked to by ESPN, CBS Sports, and the Houston Chronicle. I will likely send one or two articles to them. I’ve also been asked to appear on ESPN Radio multiple times to discuss the NFL.

This past summer, I attended a journalism seminar at Columbia University.

Other activities include: lector and volunteer at my church ( since freshman year), baseball coach in my community ( 3 years and counting), 60+ hours of community service with local charities, member of school newspaper, also a campus minister in my high school ( in charge of organizing retreats and school wide masses).

I appreciate any feedback you guys have!
