Let the Great World Spin - August CC Book Club Selection

Seems fitting today to post this -NY Times “Big City” Book Discussion-New book club started by Gina Bellafante. Their first selection- “Let the Great World Spin”.
Colum McCann speaks about his father-in law in World Trade Center when the first plane hit. He survived.

Remembering …
As Colum says in his audio interview- his book is about “remembering, recovery, and grace”.

I own quite a collection of children’s books from teaching and mothering. Occasionally I run across another that just begs to come home with me. I bought this book (hardback):

The Man Who Walked Between the Towers - Mordicai Gerstein

from Amazon:

Look for it at your bookstore or library. Incredible illustrations.

Thanks for the tip!
It’s been a while since we read Let the Great World Spin, but here’s an interesting article from earlier this summer, in part about how the book was used as a means of helping Newton high school students process the tragedy at Sandy Hook: <a href=“Colum McCann’s Radical Empathy - The New York Times”>Colum McCann’s Radical Empathy - The New York Times;

I’m resurrecting this old thread because fans of *Let the Great World Spin<a href=“or” title=“Man on Wire”>/i might enjoy this interview with Philippe Petit, who is making the rounds promoting his new book, Creativity: The Perfect Crime: http://voices.suntimes.com/arts-entertainment/the-daily-sizzle/aerial-walking-icon-philippe-petit-inspires-creativity-in-many/#.U3ycjC_d5CE</a></p>

A movie called “The Walk” is filming now, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Philippe Petit: http://collider.com/the-walk-images-joseph-gordon-levitt/</a></p>

^^^ This actually looks good. It sounds more like the documentary Man on Wire than Let the Great World Spin, which is a plus in my humble opinion.

Heading off to see it now - in IMAX 3D. I hate heights so am questioning my decision making. Hopefully I won’t get queasy. My husband pointed out that IMAX 3D looks the same as 2D when “watched” with eyes closed. He does have a point.

I thought about you, @ignatius- when I heard about this movie. As I recall, you may have mentioned the Netflix movie About phillip, after we read " let the great world spin"
I walked out on to plexiglass glass as the Willis tower,Chicago, and don’t think I could handle the vertigo producing " “the walk” - can’t wait to hear your review!!!
