Anyone know how LeTourneau’s computer science program is?

Here’s the link

I’m not really interested in the computer hardware… more into the software/gaming. I think it would be cool to have the concentration in game development but my parents don’t think that is a very good paying job and don’t think there are a lot of jobs available. Anyone know how the job outlook is?

Are there any other good Christian colleges with good computer science programs that maybe have something to do with gaming?

Hey, sorry for the late reply (doesn’t look like anyone else has replied yet). I just happened across this thread on a random google search…

I’m a sophomore Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) student at LeTourneau, which means I deal some with hardware but mostly with software. However I’m quite familiar with the Computer Science Game Development (CSGD) major you expressed interest in.

CSGD isn’t just about video games. You’ll get a foundation in general computer science principles setting you up for a job in software development. The game development-focused parts of the major (mostly dealing with graphics and artificial intelligence, I think) can give you an early edge for if you do land a job in game development down the road, however.

The job outlooks are about the same as for most Computer Science fields, which aren’t actually too bad. The pay is generally quite good as well, though don’t expect to easily get a great, high-paying job straight out of college. It’ll take you at least a few years of getting some on-the-job experience doing less-than-exciting work before you can land any of those “prime” high-paying software development or game development jobs. LeTourneau is great at helping students set up summer or semester internships at companies to help with getting a bit of experience before graduating, however.

I’ve heard that Cedarville University, another Christian school, has a pretty good computer science program as well. I visited there when I was trying to find a college and I seem to recall there being options for some video game related stuff.
