No, you do not have to report any AP if you don’t want to. But if you took an AP course and not report the score colleges may suspect something because they expect you to take the exam if you take the course. Colleges will not know if you self-study an AP if you don’t mention it (unless AP scores are on your transcript, which I doubt)

Most of the time APs don’t affect admissions except for top schools.

But sending in test scores costs $15 per test per college, right? Do colleges really expect you to pay like $500 to send in these scores? I don’t think colleges, even top 50 schools, care too much about AP scores.

You send your official scores when you are accepted into a university and you choose to attend it.
When applying, you put the scores you got yourself.

Colleges expect you to pay and send in official reports for the SAT, Subject Tests, and the ACT. They do not expect you to send in official reports for AP exams.

@kcdecember: It’s $15 for all of the AP tests you’ve taken and not cancelled. If you chose to designate a college on your AP test sheet, then it’s for free to send in AP scores. No need to send official scores for admissions. Only send them to the school you’re going to.

Right. AP scores are self-reported when you apply so you do NOT need to send official reports. When you take AP exams senior year, you can choose one school for them to be sent to for free. Since AP exams are after May 1, you just send them to the school you’ve chosen.

Hmmm… I have taken 5 AP tests so far as a rising senior. But have only taken 2 AP classes so far (my schools offer very few AP classes until senior year). One of my AP tests I got a low score (3), which was the class that was an AP class… heh-heh go figure ugh. Anyway, would it look as suspicious if I send in my scores for 2 AP tests (one of which is from an AP class, the other is Honors) and NOT send in the score from my AP Euro (the 3) which I took as a sophomore?

It looks like there are only 8 spaces on the common app for APs/SAT IIs. Can we report extra scores somewhere, or do we have to leave some scores off if we have more than 8 APs/SAT IIs?

@Josh05: In my personal opinion, I don’t think it’d be “suspicious”. If you don’t report that Euro History score… it’ll still show up on the score report when the college gets it. (Your AP score report shows all tests you’ve taken).
