Baby steps, daxzzler.

hooken168 - Remember that some Smiths have to have the numbers 2, 3, 4, … Those would be the first ones to apply. LJessica727’s comment on how she has a VERY common name, applied near the deadline and got number 289 is what I think proves that the number equal name, first initial and order recieved.

Why would 2 be the smallest number instead of 1? Just curious; I don’t doubt that we “cracked the code.”

^ Perhaps a very small amount of people that haven’t posted on CC did get a one?

Or they didn’t get a number at the end? (You know…Lethal Weapon…then Lethal Weapon 2…etc)

Also, have you ever tried tea? It’s much better…(also, there’s this thing you can do where you keep the tea bag under your tongue and suck on it, you can study forever)

I figure a little more geo diversity to the twos can’t hurt. Hope it means I’m in

I personally believe that #2 is the lowest. I can’t believe that there is more than one applicant w/ D’s last name and first initial. I also wonder if the hesitate to call anybody #1 about of concern for it going to the applicant’s head. :)

As for no number, that just means more lines of code to write without any true benefit.

@ collegehopefull: yes, I love tea…but in my world coffee trumps all. As Lorelai Gilmore would say, I like coffee “only with my oxygen.” ;)

Apparently she drank so much coffee, (the actress), (or at least, had it in proximity to her so often), that she now is either drinking Coke, or nothing at all.

^Wikipedia tells me this. Could be fake.

I heard that it was Alexis Bledel (Rory) who didn’t like coffee, so her cup would be filled with Coke or nothing…

Yeah, it is Alexis Bledel… lol. I love how we know this.

well, we are on the YALE thread after all. It is only appropriate that we know pop culture references to yale… :)

LOL. I looove Gilmore Girls just as much as I love coffee–I own all 7 seasons on DVD. Oddly enough, I sometimes wonder if they wrote the character of Rory after me–I’ve been a coffee addict and aspiring journalist and yale prospie since I was like 13. AND I like a lot of the books, music, and movies she and Lorelai like. :D

■■■■…I’m so ashamed I confused the two.

maybe they’re routing numbers. Most numbers seem to be two’s, so this would send them to the general committee. Other numbers would route one to a specific committee or person. Earlier, someone mentioned a 289. There’s no way 287 people (because there are no ones) with the same last name applied in one round, even with a name like Smith. Rather, 289 might be the routing number for automatic approval or perhaps, the “Daddy’s going to buy a new wing” department.

Well I remember reading that the applicants compete only against students from their region, so then that would mean that Yale would have some regional basis in this, but that seems inconsisent with the trend showed on this thread so it shouldn’t be according to region.
I think for equality wouldn’t everyone need to be reviewed by the same admission committee though?

I think the adcom put the numbers there so they could log on to sites like CC and laugh their heads off while anxious teenagers tried to decipher a non-existent code.

But hey, that’s just my opinion.

Lorelai is the ultimate ■■■■.

skscher- that does make some sense, because i’m still not convinced 22 other people with my last name&first initial applied in the early round…

I sent in a music supplement… did anyone else?

aha I own season 5…

Lorelai is indeed the ultimate ■■■■.

But would you really want to? I mean, suppose you were in a position to, at your age…You wouldn’t go for Rory instead?
