I’ve been a fan of Costco for a long time…and they did it again!
Yesterday we received a $40 Costco Gift card in the mail. Why? Because apparently my H bought 2 shirts there that were advertised as silk but it turns out they aren’t (the letter doesn’t really go into detail). As an apology they gave us $20/shirt. We are still welcome to return the shirts for a full refund or keep them. Either way, they want us to keep the $40. Now that is customer service!
I work at an Assisted Living Facility , and I was responsible for picking up two huge cakes. I didn’t order the cakes, a coworker did, but when I arrived to pick them up,the cakes were not what we ordered. I went to the register to pay thinking I would have to make them work, when I decided to ask the cashier about a customer service desk . She immediately called a manager and he voided the cost of 2 cakes costing over $40.00. When I tried to tell him that it was not necessary to void both cakes , he wouldn’t hear of it. He simply said" It’s our mistake , enjoy your party" and walked me out to my car . I was extremely impressed .
I had an espresso machine that I paid over $700 for. I used it for over 2 years. I couldn’t find a convenient place to get it fixed, so I called Costco to see if they had any suggestions. They said bring it in, and we will give you your money back. And they did, no questions asked.
Yes, after they give me a refund for any product I return (receipt and packaging or NONE), I’m often called and asked about their customer service. I always say it’s amazing and one of the reasons I return to that store again and again. They’re REALLY nice and they stand behind their products. I am VERY pleased as they are head and shoulders above any other store as far as returns and customer service. I’m a HUGE fan!
Yes, we returned an ink cartridge because the printer stopped working. They retunded the entire price to us, even tho we only had one cartridge left and apologized that the printer stopped working! They are friendlyl AND efficient, a combo I find irresistable!
When Costco first started selling iPods, my son had trouble with his; it was a good year after we purchased it. I did have the receipt, so took it back looking to just have them exchange it for a new one, as I was aware they would do so. Well Costco doesn’t do exchanges, they return and then you buy the new item. The new iPod was cheaper and more memory than the first one, so I questioned the amount of money they were going to refund; while it was the amount I paid, the iPod was well over a year old. Costco said this is how we handle returns, so we walked out with a new, larger iPod for less money!
It happened again a year or so later, and Costco came through again. Turns out it was the cable in my son’s car that messed with the iPod, not the iPod itself, but Costco didn’t care; they stand by what they sell, no questions asked. Costco does now have a 90 policy on electronics, which is still quit generous. If there is an item that I want and it is available at Costco, I will always go there first, even it the amount is more, which rarely happens.
I saw a man bring back a car battery that obviously has had some wear and he was refunded the full amount. I have also watched someone return frozen food that was half eaten because they didn’t like it, and my father had returned roses as they didn’t open. You know all of these people spend way more at Costco than they return, although I am sure there are some people that take advantage of the generous return policy.
I’m guessing someone in my neck of the woods is going to be pleased with Costco today, or at least their customer base. I just got home from picking up a few things and as I was going out to the parking lot, saw an American Express card laying on the ground. So I picked it up and took it back to the guy who was standing at the exit, checking items in people’s carts and told him I’d found it. He was so appreciative of my being honest and turning it in and took it immediately to the service desk - he said he knows the customer will be very grateful… which, if it were me, I would be!
OP here. Love these stories about their customer service. I have always had great experiences with them too.
@snowball I agree, I always go to Costco first for electronics. In fact all of our computers are from there because of their return policy, extended warranty and their technical support.
BTW - This letter and Costco gift card came out of the blue. We were not aware about the shirts (and probably would never have known the difference).
