This still happens in Iceland. An Icelander’s ‘surname’ is simply their father’s (or sometimes mother’s) first name plus ‘son’ for a boy and 'd

C’mon Will and Kate. Release some more baby pictures!

More? They’ve released some?

I find it very amusing that there is more controversy over Kate’s title on the birth record than there was on baby George’s name. This is one of several articles that I’ve seen discussing the topic:
[Palace inquest after Prince William names Kate as his Princess | Royal | News | Daily Express](<a href=“Palace inquest after Prince William names Kate as his Princess | Royal | News | Express.co.uk”>Palace inquest after Prince William names Kate as his Princess | Royal | News | Express.co.uk)

I live in Britain and this is the first I’ve heard of this ‘controversy’ - maybe it’s not that controversial? Everyone (here, at least) knows she is technically “Princess William”, but for whatever reason it was decided she would not use the title… and who could blame her, it sounds silly.

^^Well, Princess Diana was technically properly known as “Princess Charles” too. But of course no one ever called her that. Just sounds too dumb.

As the article points out, I think they were very anxious that she not be referred to as “Princess Kate” as Diana was called (incorrectly) “Princess Diana.” It’s worked too, for me anyway. I think of her as “the Duchess.”

As the wife of Charles and mother of the future sovereign, Dianna was still technically “the Princess of Wales” which is why most people simply refereed to her as Princess Diana, even if it was technically wrong. Kate is a British princess but she is not yet the princess of Wales, once Charles becomes King she will inevitably be called Princess Catherine (or Kate) in the press.

Personally I think the Queen has made titles far more complicated than they used to be, I wouldn’t be surprised if Charles simplifies things after the old dear croaks.

The Queen Mum lived to be 101. If the Queen, with the benefits of today’s better health care, only equals that, she’ll last to 2027, when Charles would be 79. Maybe William might simplify things…

The family is a long lived one, but don’t rule out the possibility of her abdicating (especially if her husband croaks before her), and he has been in and out of hospital recently!
