I was originally deferred and today I was rejected. UNC is by far my top choice school. My high school changed my grading system and I submitted my new transcript last Thursday to an admissions officer. I feel that this new information could make a difference. Has anyone been successful with an appeal? Do you know anyone who has been successful? I have other schools to choose from, but I love UNC.

Thanks

I would love to know this too. I got rejected today

According to the website, you can only appeal if:

“a) a provision set forth in the admissions policy has been violated or b) the decision not to admit the individual or to rescind admission resulted from a material procedural error in the admission”

Theoretically, you could appeal under (A) by arguing that you were, in fact, qualified for admissions, but honestly, at this point, I think you should just accept that it’s over. There are probably other people rejected with higher stats than yours, so I don’t think this argument would work well. If whatever additional material could have had enough impact to sway their decision from “reject” to “admit,” then you probably would have been placed on the wait list.

I really don’t see how a change of the grading scale would affect your admissions decision. Your school would have sent the new grading scale to UNC, and they will see that your level of achievement did not change, but that the grading scale was adjusted.

I don’t see how you could argue that a procedure was violated, because they considered your achievement on standardized tests and grades, just under a different scale. As I mentioned above, a change in scale does not equal a change in achievement level.

Best thing for you is to accept it and move on. Plenty of other great universities in this state and in this country. Go to a school that wants you to be there.
