Letter of Continued Interest, without being deferred?

I wanted to get some feedback around the idea of my daughter sending out emails to admissions (in general) or to her specific regional admissions counselor, for pending regular admissions schools.

She applied to a bunch of schools early action (one she was deferred from, and she plans to send a LOCI to that school), as well as a number of RD applications, and there are still a large number of schools (public and private) with decisions pending this month, next month, and even as late as early April.

Would it be advisable (or at least, not harmful) to consider sending a note about interest, with details about what she has done since her application? Mainly that she had her strongest semester to date (4.17, 4 APs, 3 honors, several APs are ECEs, which brings her cumulative from a 4.9 to a 5.1), and that she took on a new job working at an elderly home.

I know that the HS will send her transcripts out for her semester, but wondering if the letters show a personal touch or additional interest? If there is no harm in it, it’s easy enough to send. Just want to make sure it wouldn’t be harmful.

I don’t see it as necessary but I doubt anyone will say - they sent this unnecessary letter, let’s reject her.

Really it’s a note to admission that even though I’m RD (as opposed to ED), you really are my top school. Of course, you’re doing this for many so in that sense it’s not necessarily on the up and up.

I wouldn’t - but I don’t think it makes a difference either way.

Best of luck.

My D sent one to her four private RD schools. Those apps were submitted in October so there were updates (elected captain of sport, shared link to article in paper about project she is leading, and mentioned increase in her weighted gpa). Kept it short, mentioned she still loved x school for x reason. AOs seemed appreciative.

Her public flagships (Mich and Wisco) asked for loci through portal since she was deferred

Mine set an email like that in Jan23 to their top choice school. They wrote that they were unable to apply ED (parents said No Way!), but would love to attend if admitted. They also included a bit of info about why they love the school and thought they would be a perfect fit, as the school did not ask for a why us essay, but is clearly seeking students who will be a good fit. I thought it was well written, clear, engaging and not over the top.
They are currently enrolled at that school. Not sure if the letter mattered - definitely did not hurt.
They only sent one email - to their clear first choice school. They thought it was a bit of a hail mary - but there they are!

I would call this more an update than a LOCI, but one concise update where you provide some new information is probably not harmful. Nor necessarily helpful unless it is really dramatically new, but kids want to feel they did what they could.
