I’m applying to Stanford, and I need some advice on letters of rec. Do private schools such as HYPS accept letters of recommendation from work supervisors as a “teacher recommendation”? I was a congressional page for 6 months, and plan on asking my work supervisor in Washington for a recomendation, but I’m not sure if those schools accept work recommendations as one of the two recommendations. I’m pretty sure they can be used as additional recs, but can they fulfill the one of the two required recs? thanx.

You should contact Stanford and ask this question.

In my opinion, when a college requests teacher recommendations, it is exactly that - from teachers only. Additional recommendations may be sent, but colleges are most interested in what your teachers have to say about how you handle learning and workload. After all, a college will want to educate you, not employ you. (speaking in general terms)
