My daughter asked one of her teachers to write her a letter of recommendation realizing that the teacher is pregnant, going on maternity leave, and anticipating that she might be gone longer than is customary. She indicated that she waived her right to view the letter.
The teacher just completed the letter and will be going on leave soon, too early to upload the letter to the common app which is not yet available for next year’s seniors. The teacher sent a copy of the letter, unsolicited, to my daughter. How should my daughter go about getting the letter into the common app in the case that the teacher does not return? Could she go through her guidance counselor? Is there a way to do it manually? Thanks.
When the Common App becomes available on or about August 1, she can start an application and as long as she opens with at least one school, she can go into the Recommendation section and designate her teacher by inputting her email address and hitting the Assign button.
The teacher will then get an email communication from the Common App soliciting her rec. Since she’s already written it, she will just need to copy & paste it into the provided form and submit it electronically.
What this means is that your daughter will need her teachers email address.
If it’s a personal, rather than a school email address, her teacher should mention somewhere in the rec. that she’s currently on maternity leave.
Your daughter should also be sure to run it by her GC as well, just to be sure that she’s adhere to any specific rules that her hs may have.
