Letter of recommendation for current course

If it is the case that a current teacher may be far more familiar with your intended major and is much more familiar with your abilities than former professors would it be possible to have them write a letter of recommendation instead of a professor who’s grade you have received already? It’s already one month or so into the course, so the professor has had a good chance to understand the students.

If not, would they be able to submit something supplemental alongside the Midterm report?

Would this be a supplemental rec that you’d send in to Yale now (February)? If yes, I wouldn’t do it. Yale is not a big fan of supplemental recs, especially if it’s from another teacher vs. an employer or coach who knows you from a different context and is therefore more likely to provide new information.
