Out of the blue, I remembered today that we were supposed to write a letter to our advisor for next year (and the same letter goes to the JA, correct?). I had completely forgotten about this up until today, and I lost the paper, so could somebody fill me in on what we’re supposed to do and when the deadline is (or was)?

I swear I’m not usually so forgetful… Chalk it up to the craziness of graduation/senior week/a million other things! Thanks to anybody who can help!

Were we supposed to? I thought we are not assigned to our advisors until orientation, and that we will meet them a day before classes…

I sent in the yellow form where I listed the subjects I am and am not interested in and what extracurricular activities I enjoyed in high school, and that is all I remember getting from academic advising committee.

Maybe I’m confused, then. I did send in the yellow form–I just thought that there was something else we were supposed to do. I remember that it wasn’t mandatory, though, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world either way. Thanks!

There’s a letter that goes to your JA and I think a dean or something like that. Don’t stress too much about it. I don’t know the specific directions or timetable.

Yeah, you are supposed to write a letter of introduction, besides filling out the yellow form. Here’s what the relevant part of the letter said:

“In addition to asking you to return your registration form, the advising quwestionnaire and other relevant items indicated above, we have another request to make. We asi each of you to take a few minutes sometime during the course of the ensuing weeks to compose a letter of introduction and send it to the Office of the Dean, P.O. Box 518, Williams College, Williamstown, MA, 01267. The letter need not be addressed to anyone in particular; copies will be forwarded to both your Academic Advisor and your Junior Advisors. Please do not fret over this task or give it excessive attention. You will not be judged or assessed in any manner. We simply seek an informal and honest letter, which will enable us to begin to become acquainted with you and to develop an idea of what might be bringing you to the Williams College comunity. Please feel free to include any information you wish; some likely topics to consider are why you chose Williams initially and what you are hoping ot discover upon your arrival here; what worries you; what excites you; and perhaps what you’ll miss most once you leave home.”

The letter containing the info above was mailed in May. I’m not sure when it was all due back, though I think they asked to have it back by June 10th. But I don’t think it will be a big deal if it’s late. Just try to get it in a.s.a.p. Hope all your summers are going great!
