so i’m in the letters and science program hopefully transferring into architecture. how hard is this process?

i’m only accepted into the spring of 2010 but i’m getting a full ride. i’m still deciding on umd or virginia tech architecture program but making into architecture at VT is 20% chance so how hard is it to get into UMD’s program?

S and I went to the Architecture part of the Admitted Students Open House. They said for students who are not admitted in the Architecture program as freshman, it is highly competitive to transfer in but not uncommon. They only take 54 students per class year because there are 54 studios spaces and the studio portion is Junior and Senior year. Our student guide said it was much easier if you are already in the program from freshman year on. She transferred in from another major. There are some prerequisites, so be sure you tell your advisor that you think you want to pursue Architecture later on so you can get those prerequisites out of the way.

Va. Tech’s program is extremely competitive, if you don’t have a 4.0+ they don’t even look at you for Architecture.

hmm… i’m really hesitant about vt because they only accept like 10 out of 100 every year. and they said it changes depending on how many people drop out of it and what not. how is umd ranked in the architecture undergrad ranking? idkkk what to do

One thing we really like about UMD is the proximity to Washington DC and the opportunity to interact/intern with architecture firms there. Our student guide said that working architects participate in their design critiques regularly.
