<p>I just asked the editor in chief of the newspaper I work for to write a letter of recommendation for me. She said she would be happy to, but asked for specifics for what to write. Like what she should be including in her letter. So, what usually goes into a letter of recommendation?</p>
<p>Also, I am planning to ask my journalism teacher at school and a long time basketball coach I have known for awhile to write my other two. Would this be okay if i don’t plan on majoring in journalism?</p>
<p>I’m thinking of it as a minor and majoring in business. Should I go to my math teacher for a letter as well?</p>
<p>First off, schools will require a certain number of rec letters anywhere from 0-2. So the newspaper editor-in-chief would not count in that number. Essentially, her rec would be extra supplement. You also don’t want to send more teacher rec letters than they ask for, so be sure who you want to ask.</p>
<p>Rec letters should attest to your attitude, personality, class contributions, work ethic, potential for the future, how you compare to other students, etc. They don’t need to include GPA, rank, scores, etc. because that’s already in your application. Your rec letters and essays are what turn you from a paper with numbers to a real person.</p>
