Letters of recommendation two years after high school?

This is my first post on this site, so bear with me if I’m in the wrong section. I am just struggling to come up with anyone to ask for letters of recommendation. I graduated high school in 2013 with a 3.29 gpa. As you can see, I was a fairly average student. I was also shy and didn’t do very well at participating in class, so I don’t believe I really stood out. Would it be weird to ask for recs after so long? I didn’t have a particularly great relationship with any of my teachers (oddly, the ones I really liked are the ones who taught classes that I earned B’s and C’s in. Not sure why I sabotaged my own future this way, but I digress) and I only saw my counselor two or three times in the four years I went to that school.

What should I do? Is it acceptable to ask for letters from someone else? Most of the schools I’m interested in specify “teacher,” so I’m afraid to submit anything else. Thanks in advance for any insight!

Speak with your target schools and specifically ask what can be an alternative for someone in your situation. Perhaps an employer could be used instead. Also, double check the rec letter requirement in general. Most colleges require no rec letters. Generally, the more selective ones do – perhaps not the ones you’ll be targeting. Good luck

Most of my top schools don’t require any, but my reach school wants two. Thanks, I will contact them and ask if at least one can be from someone other than a teacher.
