Letters of Recommendation

How much do the check boxes on the teacher evaluation form really matter? Im wondering this because one of my teachers wrote an excellent letter, but didnt mark me the highest on productive class discussion becuase I am quite. The letter explains this and she talks about how I contributed to class discussions, but will the check box hurt me that much. My other letter of recommendation has a great body and the check boxes are mostly in the top 5% a few in the top 10% and 1%. Also my math teacher checked off no basis for writing ablilites, that means that he wouldnt know anything about my writing skills since it was a math class right?

Also, I got a letter of reccomendation from my youth minister since I was on our youth groups leadership team. This has been my main leadership expieriences in high school so I think it is important to send it in, the only problem is there are two typos, and they said that I was involved in a study abroad program when I really just went to russia with our schools russian program. Will these things count against me? I think its important for me to send it in because it shows leadership but I dont know if those mistakes will count against me.

They’ll be looking at the boxes in the context of the actual letter, so if the teacher explains that you were quiet but still able to contribute to the class it should be fine. Colleges will use common sense. They know your math teacher wouldn’t know anything about your writing and they know your minister isn’t an english teacher and won’t have perfect grammar. You should be fine. Good luck!
