I know there are moms and dads of tall skinny boys out there. Maybe you can help me. For several years my DS has worn Levi’s 514 jeans size 31 waist/ 34 length. The only jeans we have ever found to fit his frame.

Now, we cannot seem to find them. Even the Levi’s online site no longer seems to have 31/34.

Ideas or suggestions? DS is 6’2" and about 140-145 lbs.

That’s really slim for a guy. It’s hard to believe he’s going to stay the same size after a year of college food. I’d go up to a 32W/34L, which are readily available, and make sure he has a belt that will expand a bit. Don’t overbuy - my 6’2" 155 lb. athlete put on 25 lbs freshman year, and had to replace or alter a lot of things.

thanks for the ideas, folks. I havent tried Sears or Penneys, yet. Good suggestions.

ek - the 514s are cut slim through the thigh, but not as tight on the calf as the “skinny” jeans.

midwesterner - I wish this kid would gain some weight! he will be a returning sophomore and actually lost 5 lbs during freshman year by eating the nutritional food at school and avoiding snacks and junk food. And walking and biking everywhere.

We have had luck with LLBean jeans, they seem to fit son well (he wears a 30/36) and they will hem to a longer length, even 29’s. He finds that some levi’s fit well, 514’s fit okay, 501’s no so well. Just like a girl, he has to try on each pair of jeans.

I would buy him jeans that fit him. After three years of college son is still about the same size (6’4" and about 145-150 depending on time of the year). A couple years ago I bought him some 31’s on sale and they just hung off him even this summer.

Try Boot Barn, or your local version of a boot store. DH is about the same size as your son (a little lighter in weight), he buys his jeans at Boot Barn. And try the Wrangler jeans, the cut is a little more slim (not tight on DH) and they don’t shrink in the length.

You might call Nordstrom’s Rack, I don’t know if they carry Levi’s, but I’ve bought a lot of DH’s dress pants there…they seem to have a larger selection of the the slim sizes.

My son is also tall and slim - has been his whole life. We noticed that after the skinny jeans came out, the slim jeans seems “fatter” so he ended up getting skinny jeans now - of course they are supposed to be worn skin-tight, but not on him. My S is 6’2" about 130 lbs and has been for awhile - I wish he would gain weight - so does he. He needs a size 29 waist, but we end up with 30’s a bunch of the time. He wears 29/34. I’m a bit scared that you mention that the online Levi’s store no longer carries them in stock… I have wondered for awhile if they might phase out the 514s with the new skinny jeans out (a horrific thought for any parent of a super skinny boy.)

Another place to try (not sure about an online store) is Tilly’s. We heard they carry them, but haven’t had to go there yet. We usually go to Kohls or JCPenneys.

Good Luck with those jeans.

And even though you didn’t ask, I’ll add that Kohl carries a skinny line of suits, etc. It’s called Apt.9 and available with all the other suits in store. I was able to get a Long size jacket that wasn’t too wide. They also have dress shirts that look so much nicer than other brands on my son. My S was sooooo happy to find suits that fit there.

My 6’, 130 pount son wears 514 30/34s. We can still find them at Penneys, Kohls, and Macys. Unfortunately, Levi’s began using a different fabric a couple years ago, and my picky son doesn’t find them as comfortable as the old ones … so he usually wears his oldest pairs, with patches on the inside so that the holes don’t provide a sneak peek at what’s underneath!

Levi’s 511s are cut along the same lines as 514s, but he prefers the 514s.

I’ve been on many threads about shopping for tall skinny boys – and one of the hardest things is to find stylish cloths for a tall skinny guy. Son is in architecture and he has spent a good bit of time in Italy, so he longs for clothes with some distinction. Most clothes for very tall, thin men tend to be very basic He has some luck in Italy, although clothes tend to be very expensive there (he tried on an Armani suit in Milan that fit him beautifully, but it cost about $6000, so…).

With all that being said, I have a great story to tell. First of all, i grew up in Indiana, but have lived in rural Iowa all of son’s life. This winter I was in Oregon visiting friends. In a very nice vintage store in Eugene, I found a gray flannel suit from the 1950’s in beautiful shape (think Gary Cooper). Pants were 31/36 with cuffs, the jacket was long and about a 38. Beautiful gray wool, a unique and distinctive suit. I paid $60 for it, another $60 to have it altered to fit son. A truly great find. But the best part? When I opened the jacket the label inside was from the men’s store in Indiana where my father bought all his clothes and our next door neighbor was the tailor. How it came to Oregon and then fell into the hands of an Iowa boy is mystery to me.
