Naval Academy chapel get resounding praise

Published in today’s BS:

The $10 million for the chpael works out to $25,000 per seat! It must be a Taj Mahal.

I’m looking forward to seeing it next time I’m in the Yard.

GA … I think your mixing of metaphors suggesting the Yard’s synagogue is in fact an Islamic mausoleum could create some consternation among the theologically stiff-necked. On the other hand, your observations may be encouraging some unintentional ecumenism.

Pretty soon it’ll be the rabbi working the baptismal font with the Mormon tabernacle singers humming a Hindu chant in the background? ;)

WP,

In light of the brouhaha that Chaps Klingenschmitt has gone through this year, I think you are correct concerning the ecumenism. The senior officers in the Chaplain Corps are definitely pushing universalism; and they are even getting support from Senator John Warner.

Hey, we’re all one big happy family! Especially if we convert to Islam.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the Taj Mahal is best described as Hindu, not Muslim (assuming any religious label can be legitimately applied to it at all).

I think Muslims would have a collective fit if a building like that were built for a woman…

It’ll take some homework … and indeed I’ve been wrong at least once before … but I seem to recall it was built by a muslim as a mausoleum for his favorite wife.

Gotta run. Mine is beckoning me. Sure hope she’s not hoping for equal billing.

;) :p

Yard’s synagogue -> doesn’t exist

In the military, there are only chapels. I am not trying to be nit-picky, but any place of worship is technically open to all faiths.

A rose by any other name …
