Liberal Arts/Right brain person Major?

I want to major in the LAs or Communications (Journalism) but the problem is… you dont get paid (well) when you get a job, and its much harder to find a job.

What do people who are right brain oriented do? Must we suffer in the world of math & science?

I am thinking of majoring in business but I HATE math, which really makes no sense. But I want to make money (100K+) and do something that I don’t hate doing. I dont have to like it, but I don’t want to hate it.

I don’t know about this…it may be harder to find a really well paying job right out of college, but the degree program of an LA major will teach you how to look at problems/situations in a creative way, and usually teach the skills more valued in upper management/executive positions. Skills like critical thinking, creativity, objectiveness, and communication. LA majors do have it harder directly out of college, but over the long run, the exposure they received to arts/history etc. pays off usually.

Besides, not very many, if any, majors hook students up with jobs making 100k+ right out of school…it’s usually 10-15 years later that jobs like this come along (by that time, your major means less than your ability to do the job), and it’s more likely with a graduate degree which an MBA (money-making graduate program) is something you can get with most any undergrad degree, I believe.

Do something you love, and your grades will be bomb, you’ll learn a lot more, and it will all fall into place in the end. That’s my advice.

Haha, of course I’m not looking to make 100k as soon as I get out of college. But decent salary…

I feel like your post does hold some truth…
Thanks for the input :]

What does a decent salary mean for you? These vague terms vary greatly. Also, keep in mind than major choice isn’t a career choice. Different business programs require different levels of math, so it might not be an issue as to math and business. Most journalists seem not to major in journalism, and they also don’t seem to make much money compared to engineers or ibankers.

out of college, decent… 40k? 50 k preferably =x
Yea. Engineers make a lot of money I know (my dad did it) but so much studying … hate math.

Chibifry,

possible majors that can get you that level of income right out of college (ranked in order of likelyhood, IMO) are:

MIS (probably get a pretty decent job while you are still in college!)
Engineering
Finance
Accounting
Computer Science
Marketing
Economics
