Liberals, how many of you assume Republicans are dumber than a sack of...

oh whatever your screenname is a politician

Regarding your reply, do you really disagree with the statement that you can use “well, if I don’t spend it, someone else will” to justify any sort of earmark?

haha yea i know “welfare”. just fast typing and not thinking. But don’t let it ruin my little speech

I think that predominantly red states receive more federal funding per capita than the blue states. Progressive taxation notwithstanding, wealthy people end up paying for these programs because they have all the money. It’s something like the top 1% has 90% of the money or something like that.

^Give up already; it’s only human to be wrong.

And it’s more like, “if I don’t appropriate this spending for the general welfare of my district, someone in the executive branch will use it secretly for a prostitute”

Not all earmarks are good, but every earmark is better than no earmark.

You aren’t answering my question. I don’t think that it is a loaded one. Your characterization “other politicians are going to spend it on hookers” is also unfair.

Question: are projects that Ron Paul earmarks for his district Constitutional in the eyes of a strict Constitutionalist?

Unless I’m missing something, yeah…

This is a list of some of the projects Ron Paul is getting money for:
this is from a blog (lol i know)

It looks like a lot of that money is going to functions that, strictly, are under the scope of the states . . .

It may be that I haven’t given you time to respond, but you still haven’t answered my question above . . .

I’m gonna be off the internet for a while, so take your time.

I’ll be back,

silence_kit

Ummm… minus a few, it looks like a pretty good list.

And if you mean this (“well, if I don’t spend it, someone else will”) question, no I don’t agree with that at all. I hardly believe that’s how he justifies his earmarks, though.

Wow, someone who actually likes earmarks.

Getting back on the subject of 2012, I think we should get someone like John Kasich, who is running for gov of Ohio in 2010 and would be the best bet, although it is more likely he’ll go in 2016. After his successful term as governor revitalizes the state of Ohio, he’ll be in a perfect position to launch himself into the race. Plus coming from the swing state of Ohio, he should be in a great position to pick up the libertarian states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and, obviously, Ohio.

He has a great record for libertarian/conservative issues in the House of Representatives as it was almost solely him that balanced the national budget in the 90’s, even though Clinton and Newt Gingrich get most of the credit. He is the best future of the GOP.

In 2012, I think my own governor, T-Paw (Tim Pawlenty for you guys unfortunate enough not to live in Minnesota) should run. He would be a great choice. Just please not Palin or Huck. Please. Romney would be a decent choice, but I think his RomneyCare disaster up in Massachusetts will prevent him from getting the nomination. Newt Gingrich would also be good, too.

Obviously Ron Paul would be teh coolest, be I just can’t see his foreign policy views going over too well in the GOP. Plus I think it would be best if the GOP went with a younger person.

It’s going to have to be someone who is a non-interventionist (which makes me lose faith in most republicans). Also, they’d have to understand monetary policy. The fed, no matter what your economic views, has overextended itself. I understand ending the fed is unrealistic, but it needs to be cut down in size. Iceland has a fed that only covers monetary policy, and besides having the usual central bank problems, it is effective as compared to ours.

Then again, who knows what it will be like in 2012; it’s hard to speculate who would be the best for the job when we don’t know what the future has in store for societal conditions…

LOL!

lol omg, never mind, wrong country :frowning: Maybe it was New Zealand? Let me look it up before I make more of a fool of myself. I heard it in an end-the-fed debate on CSPAN, so it must be true!

Edit: Yup, New Zealand. So Iceland has no government now? lol

The Scandinavian socialists capsized that country about nine months ago.

And I don’t know much about NZ’s fed or anything, but what I do know is that they got a 59% income tax for those making over 65K (in NZ$, I don’t know how that converts to USD). Ummm, let’s not follow their economic policy.

^ No, not their economic policy; I wasn’t advocating that. My point was, if we must have a Fed, it needs to be streamlined. I think the route it’s currently on (super regulatory power) is dangerous not only to the economy, but to the liberty of businesses around the country.

As that english guy said, absolute power corrupts absolutely. Not that they aren’t already, though…

Edit: I’m too lazy to check, but I believe the NZ Dollar is just under .7 to the US dollar (at least it was a few days ago).

So no one is taking on my challenge of defending social conservatism? Too bad.

Honestly, most college aged Republicans are socially liberal. That’s why libertarianism is so big on here.

This should summarize the argument:

“So no one is taking on my challenge of defending social conservatism? Too bad.”

This. Is. Impossible.

All I know is, we should all do what Jesus says  (and I’m a jew)
