Libraries

Is there a main library on the campus? I want to do most of my studying in a large library with lots of resources. When I walked around BU I never saw one.

What’s the library situation like there?

There are 17 libraries at bu. Try going to [Boston University Libraries](BU Libraries | Boston University)

Mugar Memorial

. . . which is next to the GSU (the Union).

…which was my second home 2 weeks ago. Glad to be rid of that place for a few months :)

The libraries at BU are amazing. What they don’t have, they will find for you. I’m obsessed with Marie Antoinette and French Revolution history, and now that I’ve read all of Mugar’s books on Marie Antoinette, I’ve been utilizing the Virtual Catalog - it lets us see the catalogs in the Boston Library Consortium, which includes all the Boston Public libraries as well as the libraries at 12 area universities. When you request books from the BLC, they mail them to Mugar free of charge so you can just pick them up right on campus.
I’ve also recently used the Interlibrary Loan system to track down a very rare book I’ve been dying to read. It’s been out of print for over 50 years, and just yesterday I got an email confirming that BU Libraries found me a copy and it’s waiting at Mugar.

As for studying, Mugar is a great place, especially up near all the history books on the fourth floor. No one is ever up there, so it’s always peaceful and if you sit by the window you have a great view. The staff is also very helpful, no matter how many obscure resources you ask them to locate. There are also a ton of computers, and you can print from them using the print quota that is included in your tuition.
