Library Hotel in New York City

I am planning a college trip with my D and my husband will be joining us for the New York city part of the trip. This looked like a nice hotel right near Grand Central (which will be good for visiting Sarah Lawrence and Bard) and wanted to know if anyone had stayed there before. Thanks!

I’ve not personally stayed there, but a friend of mine did several years ago, and gave it great reviews.

We stayed there a few years ago and loved it.

It was mentioned in a recent magazine as a good place to get away for a romantic weekend. Apparently there are some rooms dedicated to the ‘wilder’ side of writing (wink…wink).

I’ve stayed there three or four times. It’s fun; rooms are a little small, but nicely furnished and looking at the various books is fun. There’s also a continental breakfast served on the first floor that’s free to guests and snacks/wine/soft drinks/nuts in the afternoon. The Library is part of a small NYC chain of boutique hotels. My dh is in NY for business often, and he usually stays at one of the other hotels in the chain, either Hotel Giraffe and The Elysee. Those are also very nice. According to my H, the guy who owns the chain was an immigrant to the US and started out as a bell boy.

I haven’t stayed there (I prefer to be further north when I’m in the city) but I do know people who have and they’ve enjoyed it. I’m guessing you’d go for the suite since that’s the only room that would accomodate three people. The suites are supposed to be quite nice and a little larger than the other rooms, although still not as large as those in many NY hotels.

wow. . .i just looked at their website. . .beautiful but expensive.

Seems well liked on Tripadvisor:

On one of our visits, we did stay in a suite at The Library; D2 came up from school in Philadelphia to attend an event with us. The suite has a sitting area with a sofa that converts to a bed. I hate sleeping on those, but D2 didn’t complain.

Stayed there a couple of years ago. Small room - but very comfortable. Reasonable for the price, at the time. It was nice to be near the NY Public Library and an easy walk to Times Square, etc. Right now a lot of NYC hotels are running specials. You can probably do better, price-wise, by shopping around.

House of the Redeemer has wonderful rooms for those who want a quiet place to stay on the upper west side for a bargain.

It just got mentioned on local news today- best overall hotel in NYC, top lux hotel in US. sounds wonderful.
