Lie about GPA.. Not really but..

I’d never lie about my GPA. I am not stupid. But I live in Canada and I want to go to School in America. Anyways, here is how things break down. Canada grades differently and basically for my province it can be summed up to this

90-100% A+ A superior / outstanding performance.
80-100 A very good / excellent performance.
70-79% B A good / above average performance.
60-69% C A generally satisfactory, intellectually adequate performance.
50-59% D A barely satisfactory performance.
0-49% F An unacceptable performance.

Anyways with that being said my GPA is like 3.2 in that standard… When I apply to schools in the states should I just give them my Canadian GPA or convert it… My Canadain looks better, and I kind of need it to stand a chance haha. So basically all I want to know is, would it be a bad idea to give them my GPA in the Canadian System?

If your confident that you’ve converted your GPA correctly, then give them the non Canadian GPA. If possible, note the type of system your GPA is in… I’m sure out of country application will have such.

i’m canadian too and mines similar (just a little less generous… 86 + is an A)

its equal, the adcoms realize its harded to get higher grades here, they arent given out as freely.
so give your can GPA, however, they will get your reanscript so it really doesnt matter,

most say they wil calculate it the way your school does

It really doesn’t matter. Many colleges recalculate GPAs using their own methodology. Regardless, it doesn’t matter, they are way more concerned with rank than GPA. And if your school doesn’t rank, they use formulas to approximate a rank for you. The have your entire transcript and different schools parse it in different ways.

As for looking at one country vs. another, they have tons of applicants from Canada and your first line of competition is other Canadians.

i’m pretty sure colleges know about how you’re graded, you’ll be fine

I didn’t think colleges accepted transcripts unless officially sent from the HS for I would guess exactly this reason. You school would send a HS Profile that should list the grading system (just in case whatever school is not familiar with YOUR hs).
