Life at JHU vs Life at Yale

I recently got accepted to both and am having a difficult time choosing. I like both schools and want to do pre-med. I’m a URM and I just want to know what life is like, academically, socially, in terms of diversity etc at both schools. Please do not simply include rumours and hearsay. If any students who actually attend these institutions or know people who do could post, that’d be great.

Thanks guys!

are you serious? Socially at Yale, you can find both types of people, party people and intellectuals, many times rolled into one. Why would you go to JMU, where you’ll find everyone to be nearly the same, compared to Yale? This is like choosing between a beat up old Buick and a Rolls Royce. Plus, academically and careerwise, you’ll have FAR FAR FAR more opportunities at Yale. All those who bash elite schools, or much of those people are many times very jealous

I don’t know if JMU was a typo or not, but JHU = Johns Hopkins University, which is also very prestigious and might be better for the OP since he’s pre-med.

my bad, I was just misread JHU for JMU, wow, I feel like an idiot. Yea, but this is a tough decision, because they are both great schools in not the friendliest cities, but with extremely diverse and intelligent people. Take a lot at their stats for getting their kids into med school, and while they’ll be nearly the same, it is still worth taking a look at if you need a tie breaker. Yale does have some more famous alumni, but thats not everything.

go to Yale…

none of you are actual students who even know about studying at these institutions.
Right now, all you people see are two big names. I have experience with one of these names, but as I have already commented on this, I will refrain from adding more to the discussion.

Both of these schools are phenomenal and unparalleled in many fields.

JHU is a spectacular medical school, although what I’ve heard from others is that they tend to shun their undergrads a little bit. I think Yale will give you an equally good pre-med education, but more outs if you decide that medicine is not for you. Also, its connections are a lot better, so you will probably know successful people in other disciplines.

btw I am not a he, I’m a she.

for medical/biomedical/medical-science connections, JHU is only matched by Harvard. If Medicine is truly what you want, a Yale Law Alum is not going to help you much.

I’ve heard from very viable sources that JHU is much more intense and competitive than Yale. If you’re look for a more relaxed, more collaborative lifestyle with fun kids who have great times, then come to Yale.
