light on APs...

In my sophomore year, the only AP open to me was AP Euro (A and 5). The only other weighted class open to me was Honors Chemistry.

For my junior year, I had signed up for 4 AP classes, 1 honors class, and 2 additional ones. Due to issues with counseling however, I got stuck with 3 AP classes, 2 honors, and 2 additional.

Senior year, I will have 5 APs and 2 additionals.

Soph: AP Euro, Hon Chem, Adv Eng, Adv Alg 2, French 3, Band, Tennis

Junior: APUSH, AP Chem, AP Eng Lang, Honors Precalculus, Honors Physics, Band, Robotics

Senior, AP Calc AB, AP Physics B, AP Comparative Government, AP Economics, AP Music Theory, English, Band

I’ve gotten all so far (rising senior) As in all and am expecting 5s in all APs

I realize I am light on the APs before senior year (part due to scheduling conflicts). I do however, have a good total of weighted classes because of the honors.

All in all do you think I am at a big disadvantage here, as compared to others ?

You probably will have more APs than the average Cal student.
Not at all at a disadvantage.

will the honors do anything in the way of bolstering significantly?

You’ll be fine, just have good SAT and AP scores and of course…it does depend on other factors…including what you compare to in your school.

Wow. you have just as many AP scores as I do. Best of luck there, it’s a costly test. >.<

Now, in terms of how signifantly it will help you in Cal…it depends. If you are applying to L&S, it’s pretty useless (which is where I am at). As of 2008, AP scores can no longer use to cover the breadth requirements. So, it’s just give you “units”. These units are for graduation, but I never heard anyone that is in deficit of units by the end of their 4 years. BUT, you can request from Office of Registrar to test out of certain classes as long as they are on your transcript when you applied. So personal example, I took Calc 2…which is the equivalent of Math 53 and 54. So I can request a test so I don’t have to take that course at Cal. So I can, in theory, use my AP Stats test as a means to secure an examination to get out of Stats 2 (now that is assuming you still remember everything and pass the examination)

From my friends in COE (College of Engineering), he said he actually got out of physics and some required classes through AP scores. So I guess it’s more useful there? But I never read anything from Cal, since it doesn’t really pertain to me.

I don’t know about the other colleges. Hope it helps!

I took no AP’s during high school. I tend to be a lousy test taker and did not want to chance failing the exams. Instead I took many community college courses so that as long as I passed with a C, I knew I would be guaranteed college credit.

You’re not at a big disadvantage at all. There were nine APs offerred at my school and I took seven due to scheduling conflicts. And to make you feel even better, even though I had A’s in all of those classes, I had a broad range of scores. I’m talking about some 5’s and even some 1’s. So you’re definitely at a good standing with your grades, AP scores, and challenging coursework. No need to worry :)
