Likely leaving the University of Richmond due to a decline in financial aid, what transfer options w

I live in Virginia and have completed two years of college, all of Richmond’s gen eds, and was 3 courses away from a history major.

Absolutely everything was covered by my financial aid the first two years, but the package I received for the upcoming year left a $20,000 gap, even after 7k in loans. Worse, I’m afraid that my senior year I would be paying an even larger amount of Richmond’s 59k a year should my family’s home construction business continue to do well again.

My overall GPA is a 3.56 and my history major GPA is 3.74.

When I first applied, Richmond was my reach school with a 2020 SAT and a 4.0 in high school. Virginia Tech was my second option, while I didn’t apply to William and Mary or UVA.

Now that I’m planning to transfer, W&M and UVA are probably my top choices (though I don’t know if I could make it into them), while Virginia Tech, where all of my friends go, would be a fallback.

Also, what are some thoughts on trying to transfer for the spring semester versus the fall of next year? I’m guessing some colleges would roll over applications should I be denied.

Thanks for any input.
