GPA: 92 (unw)

SAT IIs: 800 writing, 780 math IIC, 760 US history

APs/IBs: 5s on: Macroeconomics, microeconomics, english lit, us history
4s on: Bio, Latin: Vergil

EC’s: editor-in-chief of school newspaper, drama club president, varsity rock climbing. Semi related - I had a really good job last summer on the business side of a small newspaper. I was the circulation manager, and I had about 15 employees. Summer before that I had a good internship at a theater

Awards: Two of particular note. First was this fellowship at school for international travel. I went to Brazil to study their economy and came back with some good essay fodder, particularly re: poverty. The newspaper I edit won the JEA’s student impact award for effecting positive change in our community with regard to the way we deal with honor offenses. I was able to tie this in nicely with Duke’s honor code type thing.

Hook(s): none. Not a bad interview, I thought, though this is hardly a hook.

Why I think I got a letter: Apparently, these folks are under the impression that I’m among their top 350 applicants. Hoo-rah.

wow netcos, u just got a likely letter today? Congrats, that’s interesting, so I guess they’re still sending em out.

Is it possible that they’ll still sending letters tomorrow and this Friday?

You might get one tomorrow or Friday; I think mine came on the first Friday in March last year. The RSVP date for “Duke Up Close” weekend is coming up (someone who got an invitation might be able to post it), and I know they need to deal with airline reservations, etc. If you don’t get one by the end of the week, I don’t think you ever will.

Keep in mind that only about 350 people get this, and they accept over 3,000 total.

RSVP date? i haven’t received any additional info after the initial likely letter. as for the book awards, i believe it is given from local alumni associations in order to pique interest to that particular school. the school probably works in conjunction with the local alumni chapter. the chapters will give the awards to the school and the school then chooses whoever they feel is deserving i suppose. at least that’s what i make of the whole process.

just got mine today. no info on duke up close, though

Same here. Has anyone gotten the second letter?

any internationals get a likely letter?

I got the first letter (edit:/ a few weeks back), nothing for a plane ticket? Do they email you cause they butchered my email (which is ironic cause its my name…)?

I got an email for Duke Close Up today. Got my letter just this past Wednesday.

GPA: 4.0 (1/512)
SAT: 2210
SAT II: US His 800, Lit 740, Math 2C: 740
AP’s: 7 this year, plus US history-5, English Lang- 5, Comp SciA- 4, Spanish-3
EC: marching band, symphonic band, winter drumline (very involved), honor societies, a lot of community service, eagle scout
Hook: very politically involved; worked on Capitol Hill w/ my congressman this summer, Cuban heritage

Why: Probably my involvement with politics; I wrote one of my essays about my experience on the Hill.
