Haha, so I didn’t know who Evan O’Dorney was, so I googled him, and he has like a freakish cult following. I would almost feel bad for him for being so stalked if he weren’t so incredibly intelligent and successful! It’s people like Evan that make me feel 287% undeserving of my likely.

Edit: After some more research (I guess I’m one of Evan’s stalkers now…=P) I found out Evan has Asperger’s! This is absolutely incredible to me because I have a cousin who has mild Asperger’s, and I’ve seen how difficult it has been for him to overcome this just to live a normal life… to think that Evan has been so incredibly successful despite this obstacle warms my heart. I feel at least 387% undeserving now, haha! It’s so cool to know that I could have a chance to sit in class with people as incredible as Evan and those I’ve met on these boards. =)

When I talked to him over a year ago he was talking of how he was certain of getting in and I thought him a bit conceited for saying that, but I guess it’s alright for some people to be like that!

@bks85 - I also got a phone call just over a week ago, and haven’t received a confirmation letter or email. I’m just waiting for one of my friends to tell me it was a prank…

^ Congrats! And you’re a canadian too, eh? I don’t know you, but I’m very proud of you! Oh, and if you’re comfortable with posting stats, I’m sure none of us will mind. :)

Weaknesses: My summer activities aren’t incredible. My course load is nothing special. My SAT’s could have been better.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I think my EC’s helped. Mostly? luck. I have no idea whatsoever why I got a likely letter!
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted to Chicago EA, and some UK schools. Rejected by Oxford PPE after in-person interview.

Congratulations to all of those who had these awesome likely letters! You guys all deserve it

my classmate today got a phone call from the admissions office saying that he was accepted. I had no idea harvard called people to accept them! How often do they do that?

Yeah, congrats to your friend! The call was the first notification I received. It was followed by a letter and then an email from a current student.

I shouldn’t be worried just because I did not get a likely or a phone call, right? I am a URM and someone on this post commented that URMs would get likelies but I also read that there were only 100 sent out this year.

Do not worry mikeyyfreshhh! As you said, only 100 (non-athletic recruit) likely letters were sent out to the whole applicant pool, which was over 35000 this year, so most people who even get accepted do not receive a likely letter. The likely letters are for those who the admissions office feels will receive multiple acceptances from top tier schools. They want to reach out to these students first so that they do not choose another school. So take a deep breath and relax in the few weeks before decisions are released. I know I’m not one to give advice on waiting, but the best idea is to remain calm instead of stress out. Remember, good things come to those who wait. :)

thanks so much @jgedwards11 seriously you made me feel much better about this whole process. I mean, whatever happens happens at this point. College is a game and unfortunately a lot of us tend to lose it for no reason at all sometimes - if I don’t get in, it’s because it isn’t in the cards for me. Thanks again!

Non-athletic liklies are given to woo students to Harvard (or whatever school it may be) and not have them select a competitor such as Yale/Stanford/Notre Dame/West Point, etc.

i.e., if you did not apply to any other ivy/super prestigious schools (which would be indicated in your interview), the need for them to send 1 of 100 likely letter to you is not really there :).

Please don’t imply that Harvard interviewers require applicants to divulge personal information about where they are applying. Likely letters are sent to unusual candidates regardless of whether Harvard knows where they are applying or not.

No felix, interviewers ask where else they are applying. Likelies are also used for the same reason for athletes - Harvard does not want to loose athletes to other schools. Can you explain this too with made-up logic? (Rhetorical, no need to respond)
