I just got a letter from Carlton College (or is it University?) telling me that I am likely to be a Hispanic Scholar. That’s all good, except I got a 156 on my PSATs… I really don’t think that’s a very good score. I’m from California, btw. However, I got in the 81st percentile overall.
Does this likely letter mean I am definitly a NHS? Or do they send this to all Hispanics?

I debated on where to post this but I think this is the best place…

Oh, and I’m 1/2 Hispanic. My mom and her family is full Hispanic and my dad is from Alabama. Spanish was my first language and I am much closer to my maternal side than my paternal side… I do still qualify… right?

I don’t want to go to Carlton… I just want to know if I’m going to be a NHS. My letter literally said
“We just learned about you through the College Board SSS. Your PSAT scores and high school records lead us to beleive that there is a good chance that you will receive recognition in the National Hispanic Recognition Program…”

Carleton has a history of sending out such letters to Hispanics, even those that don’t make it over the National Hispanic cut off. A PSAT score of 156/240 is too low for NHRP. I am surprised that a 156 is 81st percentile in California. It seems too low.
