Just a question about scheduling. I know the standard workload of an Emory student is about 4 4 credit classes, but with Orgo and Lab with Soria, thats about 6 credits, and with Pace/Health mandatory the first semester, I can take a max of 16 credit(since max is 19), which is comprised of 3 4 credit classes, and the lab/health/pace comprising of the rest. Is there a way around this to take an additional 4 credit class and exceed the 19 credit class? I really want to take orgo with Soria and I don’t want to drop down.

I have told him about that and I believe he and whoever else is working on it. Apparently he wasn’t aware of the dilemma, and I think he’s getting in touch w/higher ups about it. Another poster here had the same issue (they didn’t notice it but I did), and I contacted him because of it. When you get to orientation on Saturday (if you get there then), go to the info. fair, tell him that you are in that situation and ask if anything will be done/has been done to accommodate you. I honestly blame that situation on the way they made that health course mandatory in the fall and how PACE counts as a credit when it really shouldn’t. Basically, they’ll like find a work-around, waiver, or something. Don’t worry about it now. Also, note that you’ll have like 1.5 weeks after CLASS (as opposed to registration time) starts to get it squared away and that you won’t miss lab because it normally doesn’t start until mid September. This hasn’t been a problem in the past because health was offered both semesters so we could take it (Health) in the semester where PACE was not, thus we only have 19.

Since the PACE class doesnt really count as a credit (and you won’t actually get that 1 credit hour until the end of freshmen year)if you talk to the people in the Office of Undergraduate Education (OUE) they might be able to let you do the lab+health+pace to get 20 credits that way since the lab just happened to be a 2 instead of the normal 1 credit our lab. If not you could always just take the regular 221L/222L.

I think he’s going to make the former(OUE) happen for those that want his lab. Either way, hardly no labs ever start the first or even the 2nd or 3rd week of class.

Ah, ok, thanks guys! Hopefully they will clear things up.
