Limited Resources

I have just moved to a Spanish speaking part of the US (Puerto Rico). Note, I have spoken only English in my life. Here, the schools barely offer any AP classes. The teachers are dictators and have subjected everything to rules - No AP until Grade 12 (the other classmates are not ready :expressionless: ). Also, it is hard to find internships or volunteers here because of the language barrier, and I have no connections (Parents keep saying - you have to be independent :frowning: )

The only thing I am doing now is keeping my GPA stable at 4.5, and practicing intermediate math with SAT. I’m in 10th grade now and I have not much time till applying.

Any help to ‘beautify’ my resume would be nice.
Any one have ideas to bolster my experiences etc.?

Don’t worry about not being able to take AP classes until 12th grade. If that is the school policy, that is the school policy. College admissions committees understand that different schools operate in different fashions, and adapt their expectations accordingly.

Get a copy of “The Art of Crossing Cultures” by Craig Storti, and read it. There are a lot of books on dealing with culture shock, but Storti is the only author I know who offers specific techniques that will help you adjust to your new environment. Moving into a new culture (and language) is not a trivial thing. It will probably take your family at least a year to begin to fully adapt. However, as you master enough Spanish so that you can communicate easily things will improve. Having more than one language in your head and more than one culture in your heart is a truly wonderful thing. Try to be patient with the process.

Wishing you all the best.

Thanks for your support
I do feel better now
