Limits of transferring with a 4.0 college GPA?

What are the limits of where I can transfer to with a 4.0 college GPA first semester?
I’m currently attending an o.k. instate public college (Only known well instate).

High School GPA = 3.7 weighted 3.4 unweighted
College GPA = 4.0
SAT = 1990
Taking 17 credits first semester, engineering major + all required classes for most colleges

Possibilities = University of Maryland, Virginia Tech, University of Illinois, Georgia Tech?

All of the above, although gatech likes to see C programming and ethics under your belt before transferring.

All the schools look like easy admits to me besides maybe g tech

wow thanks for the support! I’m just kind of worried about my high school gpa holding me back. BTW, my g-Tech sat recalculated is 2150 so I’m not too worried about that.

So is there a limit to where I can transfer? Like if I sent an app to Cornell for example, would I even stand a chance considering I’m just going to a not well known public university at the moment?

For a place like Cornell the reduced number if transfers vs state schools is what creates the finer scale for admissions. If you’re transferring with just 1 completed college semester on your transcript, then they’ll weight your hs gpa heavily. If you were a borderline case as a freshman admit, the 4.0 semester will put you over. If you could never have gotten in as a freshman, then well… conversely, if you apply with 3 or more semesters of grades, they really won’t care about hs except as perhaps a tie breaker (this is usually only at prestige privates, most schools don’t even ask for hs transcripts after 30 credits).

Also, cal tech requires a 7 hour long, grueling two part entrance test.

the limit does not exist

As much as it pains me to type, the rigor of your school does matter. Insider Higher Ed has a 2010 article that reveals that schools, especially private ones, do take that factor into account.

That being said, an engineering major with a 4.0 GPA is impressive. There’s a CC “regrets” thread for students who transferred. The most common regret was not applying to reaches. EndPhase nailed it, really.
