When I went to college, I thought I wanted to be an English major, until I found out that all the cool, happening people were hanging out at Comp Lit. More recently, one of my daughter’s friends, who has barely had a significant interest in anything other than Latin poetry since she was 15, changed majors from Classics to some squirrelly literature program because her Classics department didn’t want to let her write a thesis on medieval Latin poetry, and she didn’t feel like taking any more Roman Civ classes.</p></li>
