I am not sure if this is in the right place, but I am interested in the cultural implications of word etymology (basically, I like to find out the origins of words and idioms, and why they have the cultural connotations that they do) and am wondering if most colleges have linguistics courses. Does word etymology fall under linguistics, and does linguistics fall under anthropology? I don’t necessarily want to major in this area of study, but I am interested and would like to have courses available.

Every college/university that has a Linguistics department offers linguistic courses. I’m not sure why you think they wouldn’t. And yes, the word etymology falls under linguistics. Etymology is the study of words, after all. As for whether it falls under anthropology, sort of, but not all branches of linguistics or linguistic courses fall under anthropology. For example, courses on morphology or syntax do not relate to anthropology at all.
