Over on the Carnegie Mellon board there are a lot of unhappy people tonight. CMU had created “priority wait lists” for students who promised to enroll if accepted. In exchange, CMU said it would notify everyone on May 5th whether they were accepted.

Well, it turns out that they are not accepting anyone from the wait lists from any of their schools (there are several schools that make up the university). (At least as of now.)

Students on the priority list can opt to remain on the regular list.

It really sucks because a lot of kids put extra effort into adding to their folders. The admissions office, on its facebook page, suggested writing letters etc. I feel bad for kids (like my son) who got their hopes up for this. (Last year CMU accepted about one in six off the wait list, although the previous year they accepted none.)

MIT admissions sent an email to all the people on their waitlist saying that they will take people off of the waitlist this year in the next two weeks or so.

A friend’s D just heard from Vandy today. (legacy - sister currently at school)

Its been posted on the Yale thread that someone got off the waitlist for Yale today too.

Oh, and I have a friend that got off UCSB’s today too.
