List of Schools (please exclude ivy leagues)

Ivy league is a reach for me, but state schools are safety schools for me. What are some northeastern schools that are a notch below ivy league.

I don’t want an urban setting and I’m interested in the pre med track. Thanks!!!

Tufts and Brandeis, maybe?

Maybe consider Lehigh or CMU.

Bates and Colby quickly come to mind, and, if you can deal with suburbia, there’s Boston College.

Oh also Vassar.

im basically in the same boat as you. Im considering boston college and villanova, i think those are a step below the ivies. but im trying to look for more! theres some im looking at thats more in the mid atlantic as well.

but does size matter to you?

Holy Cross has great pre-med program and new science facilities. HC and Tufts have fantastic med school placement traditions.

Sorry about the CMU suggestion I somehow looked over the part mentioning not wanting an urban setting.

University of Rochester?

Vanderbilt seems like a pretty cool place to me, and while its not in the North, it might be a good fit for what you’re looking for.

Cornell is also a possibility. You asked for no Ivies, but not all Ivies are created equal. Cornell is probably a notch easier to be admitted to than most of the other Ivies. If you post some more specific stats, you might get some better responses.

Carnegie Mellon has an oddly suburban feel for being in Pittsburgh.

Penn State, Most definitely

^ The OP is not looking for state schools.

That should also eliminate Tufts and Boston College
(although both have great premed programs)

^Not really, I don’t believe either Tufts or BC are actually in Boston, but are in suburbs of Boston.

^I’m going to Tufts next year. It’s in Medford, which is the suburb of Boston, but it’s most definitely an urban setting.
Same for BC.

Just of my own curiosity, how urban are both of them? I have heard that BC is in a little quieter of an area than Tufts.

Chestnut Hill (Boston College), is more suburban than urban. It’s 6 miles out of Boston.

Oh okay, thank you.

Plenty of LACs would fit your criteria. Bates, Bowdoin, Amherst, Middlebury, Tufts (suburban setting, but very close to Boston), Williams, Haverford (suburban, very close to Philly), Wesleyan and Trinity come to mind. Keep in mind that, while most of these are not as hard to get into as HYP, many are certainly more difficult to gain admission to than Cornell. If you’re interested in studying in an intimate environment where you’ll get plenty of interaction with professors and many opportunities to do intense research with them, definitely consider liberal arts colleges.

Of the ones I mentioned, Middlebury and Williams are the most geographically isolated.
