List of Updated Classes and Extracurricular

Last year I posted a list of classes that I was planning on taking over high school and asked whether or not the course load was good enough to get into the top schools. After several months, I’ve assembled a much more concise list of extracurriculars and classes and I pass the question off to the forums wondering whether or not the list would be good for top colleges.

My top 3 right now is Columbia University, UC Berkeley, and NYU. (USC, UCLA, Duke, Oxford, and Northwestern are also very high on the list)

Anyway, here’s the list. First classes then activities.

Freshman (With Grades)

PE - A
STEM Physics (Double Period) - A
Spanish 3 - A
Health/CCR - A
Geometry - A
English 9 - A

Sophomore (With Current Grades)

AP European History - A
AP Human Geography - -A [Expecting to return to a strong A if -A’s matter to GPA]
Spanish 4 - A
Algebra 2 - A
STEM Biology (Double Period) - A
English 10 - A

Junior

AP US History
AP Spanish
AP Psychology
AP Language
Pre-Calculus
STEM Chemistry (Single Period)
Film

Senior

AP Government
AP Literature
AP Calculus
STEM Physics/Chem
[Senior Year JC Classes are all unconfirmed]
Possible Russian JC Class
Possible Film JC Class
Possible Creative Writing JC Class

Currently the only year that I’m unsure about is Senior. I may take AP Finance if I can. I just don’t really know.

Extracurriculars: (All items that are unconfirmed or haven’t even started yet will be marked)

Eagle Scout (Doing eagle project right now, should have it by June)
-6-7 years in the program
3+ Eagle Palms (When I reach Eagle, I will be eligible to acquire them immediately)

4 Years Varsity Tennis

Quizbowl A Team (Literature Main) [Also currently 2nd Best Player in my region but my region doesn’t have any other teams lmao]

Fluency in Spanish (Currently proficient, just a couple of kinks I gotta work out)
-Excellent Recommendations from Barcelona Exchange Program
-Eagle Project working with local Latino Church
-Tutoring English at local youth center [Application to be on has been accepted, awaiting a TB test that they require

Proficiency in Russian (I’ve been teaching myself and using iTalki tutors to help me with Russian. I do not expect fluency by Freshman year of college but I think its a neat little thing to add.)

Writing Portfolio
-Published Book (Currently have a couple good connections to some smaller publishing houses)
-Started an independent ‘Onion’ style newspaper at my school

2 Summers of Creative Writing and Fiction Writing at Columbia University (Haven’t done yet. Will probably get in this year due to how my grades are looking, current relationship with my English teachers, and a strong portfolio of writing samples)

And if the following has any effect on college apps when applying to a few schools:

Double Legacy at UCLA (Mom and Grandpa)
Legacy at Columbia University (Uncle)
Legacy at USC (Dad)

Anyway if you’ve read through everything thanks. If you have any questions I’ll answer.

The courseload was fine last year when you asked, and it’s fine this year. So just a couple of points:

If you don’t take this, you’ll need an arts course for Berkeley/UCLA

Not a thing. I assume you mean AP Econ

Columbia defines legacy as having a parent attend Columbia undergrad. A grandparent might give a slight boost. An uncle, pretty much none.

You seem to be on a good track. Good luck.

Thanks for the response! In regards to the JC Film Class, I’m planning on taking my school’s current Film class in order to get the art credit next year, but I want to follow up on more Film classes at a JC because I may want to do more with film in the future.

Oops. Sorry, I missed that.

What subject are you planning to apply to study at Oxford? It looks as though your interest is creative writing? if so, be sure to read up on the English course- there is no creative writing in it at undergrad level. The website details what you study. Also, there is the ELAT to take in late October of the year you apply.
