I’ve heard that hobbies are perfectly acceptable to include under “Activities” on the CommonApp. I’ve been contemplating which might be valuable to include and am thinking about astrology. I spend a lot of time reading astro books, analyzing my friends’ charts for them, and writing about it myself. I know that astrology is looked down upon by a lot of people but it’s something I’m super passionate about! What do you think?

Wisdom (or reading your own charts) might tell you that if you’re applying to institutions of learning where astrology is not considered an intellectual or rational pursuit, perhaps keep it under wraps for now. Might your file readers snicker and sneer? Yep. Not what you want to happen, right?

I think I have a new one for my Bad College Essay Topics list. (I know it’s not been proposed as an essay topic.) Sorry, OP, but there are just some places you don’t want to go to until AFTER you get in.

I appreciate your input. Definitely a split bag when it comes to general acceptance… as evidenced in your responses. You’re right, there’s a huuuge chance my readers will be with you guys. Thanks! :)

I’d ignore @MrMom62 and @T28E4 (two of our most valuable participants). What do the stars suggest you should do? After all, if you really believe in astrology, then why should you care what experienced individuals recommend?
