Literature example for SAT essay

How do you guys go about finding a literature example for the topics. The Prompt I am having a problem with, is:

Statistics show that millions around the globe die each year from starvation. On the other hand, agriculture of the world’s grosslands feeds billions. Do you think more land should be developed strictly for agricultural purposes?

My Thesis: Lack of agriculture is not the main cause of starvation and death.
I am looking for a literature example to support it, and how to go about finding examples for future prompts. Thx

Make up a book. I did it on the June SAT, and my essay got an 11.

Since when did the SAT essay prompt become this specific?

that prompt seems fairly uncharacteristic.

It was an essay I got out of an Exam Cram SAT Prep book. I know most people probably have not heard about the Exam Cram series. I think I will work on making up examples for literature.

this is exactly the question that i wanna ask.
because I’m international student and just came to US last Sep, it’s tough for me to get many examples. the source which I can count on now is from textbook and history. I think I should read more book over the summer.
Is there any problem if I cite the wrong examples ???

“Make up a book. I did it on the June SAT, and my essay got an 11.”

What kind of information do you make up? obviously title. Author? dates? characters?

My prompt was about nonconformity, so I made up a book about a girl in the Victorian Era who defied the expectations of becoming a housewife and started her own business. I made up only the characters I needed (her and her dad, who disowned her). If you do set a novel in a history, make sure you have general information on that age.

Would this work for the prompt?

A novel that takes place in africa. The main character witnesses people starving and dying, but the rulers are corrupt. They live lavishly as a result of them using the economy on themselves. It would support my thesis that a lack of agriculture is not the only cause of starvation and death, corrupt leaders are also responsible, and that giving more land for agriculture will not solve the problem.

^But don’t you need a title and an author to make it seem real?

^ I was planning to add a title. I am just checking to make sure the plot I am making up will work for the prompt.

You don’t really need to make up a book to go along with that plot - that’s really what happens in Africa. Instead of making it into a literary example, you could just cite the fact that starvation in Africa is not due to lack of agriculture, and go on to explain the corruption of the government.

I billion people live in extreme poverty according to the WHO

200 million under 5 malnoursished

12 million die each year

problem is not that there is not enough food. Increasing production is not the problems. Problem is they are too poor. But focusing narrowly on increasing production cannot alleviate hunger because it fails to alter the tightly concentrated distribution of economic power that determines who can buy the additional food

1)problem is poverty in third world counties. there is a lack of capital investment and corrupt governments.==no money to spend on agr development or reflief from drought and floods.

2)too many people

3)first world countries dont want to help…we place a high emphasis on comfort and convienence.

4)exploitation

5)government

so no since the people cant afford it and the governments wont give em any…
