Little Barack?

Will the name Barack make it onto the top 10 name list in the next few years?

When I saw the thread title, I immediately wondered if Michelle were pregnant! After all, there has been speculation on the fashion threads that she was looking a bit thick in the middle.

And before you say that she is too old at 45, I had a surprise pregnancy at 48. The surprise is now 10.

NYMom, I hope to start just that speculation in a thread I have started in the politics section. lol

As for Barack, what is the supposed origin/meaning of his name? I know that in Hebrew it means strong and is a fairly common boy’s name in Israel.

I predict there will be more Michelles, Malias and Sahsas born this year than last year. I like all of these names, but would hesitate naming my son Barack.

Speaking of babies, check this out:

[Beanie Babies maker sells Sasha, Malia dolls](http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090122/ap_on_bi_ge/obama_daughters_dolls)

What about Jeremiah or Ayers beanie babies?

I still have my Jackie Kennedy doll made by Madame Alexander. She came in her inaugural gown. Best doll ever.

THAT ,marinmom ,is the single most impressive thing I have ever read on CC.

I understand that Barack is a Hebrew name.

Barack was named after his father, so it must also be a Kenyan name.

Reminder- don’t always assume people think of a name’s origins when choosing it. Sometimes names are chosen because they are classic American ones, DESPITE any Hebrew origins. I’d relate our usage but that would reveal identifying details- let’s just say that the sound of a name, maybe with a middle name, can please grandparents who can form a familiar one from a totally different culture.

Diehard Republican here…It is my hope that we will see lots of little Baracks in the coming years! The name that we choose for each of our children represents everyone’s first impression of that child. When we choose names that are impossible to spell, contain apostrophes, or the letter “Q,” the child is starting out with a handicap, right or wrong. The choice of the name Barack means that the parent hopes that the child will succeed. Children need more role models who are not professional athletes.
