Little things that matter

I have 2 questions:

I know I asked this question twice but I don’t think I was specific enough. I’m applying as a poli sci major and I accidentally left out my volunteer work for my city council on getting a group of pro-environmental candidates elected. (I’m also the president of our school environmental club.) Is that important enough to fax in or would that be just annoying for the adcoms?

For REGULAR DECISION, just how important are senior year first semester grades. Everyone’s been “oh it’s important, but it’s not REALLY important” What does that mean? I need some clarity…and sanity.

I think that could be really cool. If I were you, I’d actually spit out a 100 word or so summary of that volunteer work (relating it to your personal/career goals- “changing the world’s perception of environmental policy through the advocating of crucial legislation,” perhaps?) and then send it to your college with the disclaimer that you would like that information added to your file. Call the admissions office and ask how they’d like it sent- email / fax / post.

It matters in the sense that you’re expected to maintain your previous levels of academic success. If they drop, it’s a red flag against you. If you were A/Bs and you become an all A student in much harder classes, it can only work for you, though to what degree can be debated.

Thank you so much for replying! I was having such a hard time deciding what to do. =p

No prob. :)

I agree with ducktape - that will add depth to your application.

There’s a reason colleges ask for midyear reports.
