LIU Post Decisions!

Thank you for the reply. She really wants a program where she can take a lot of dance classes. We are just trying to understand if that will be possible. Looks like it would be?

Thank you so much for all the info. She doesn’t have a lot of AP credits so would that mean she wouldn’t be able to fit a lot of dance into her schedule?

@theatredancemom depending on how many gen ed she has she absolutely can take lots. That’s part of the reason I chose LIU. In addition to the MT program, there is also a dance BFA with lots of crossover and so there are lots of dance classes available.

Okay great to know! Thank you!

Thank you for the information. Does LIU have any mainstage shows coming up we could see?

@lovetoact, thank you. I did see that online, but I wasn’t sure if that was all their performances, mainstage and other?

My D was accepted last year after walking in at Chicago but chose not go (though it was a tough decision). Here is what we saw as the pros and cons if it helps anyone else:

Pros:

  • David Hugo and the other head (sorry, I can’t remember her name) were incredibly impressive and lots of great buzz around the program
  • My D was an excellent student and even though we applied after the walk-in at Chicago, she was awarded a very generous scholarship which brought the price down by about half.
  • Close to NYC
  • Suzuki acting training
  • Lots of guest teachers and directors whose names you would know

Cons:

  • Academically the school in not great and my D really wanted to minor in something (she has lots of AP credit)
  • Facilities aren’t great
  • Because they accept so many kids, there are not as many performance opportunities
  • My D is a singer first and compared to other programs the music education training and private lesson time were not as strong.

@NewToThis13 Are the kids at LIU not allowed to minor in something? My daughter really wants to minor in psychology. @mtmaybe what do you know about that?

They are allowed (I think), just not great options for my D.

For the MT Acceptance, can you tell me when your D had her live audition? My D just had her audition at Chicago Unifieds. Thanks. Trying to determine how long it will be for notification.

My daughter auditioned at NYC Unifieds and got her acceptance on February 10th.

@NeensMom you can, but @NewToThis13 is right, not necessarily great options. Psych is possible though.
@secondtimemt The World Goes Round (Kander and Ebb song cycle) opens this weekend, followed by two weekends of Shakespeare’s Measure for Measure. After spring break, we then have the Improv Company shows, followed by Sonnets for An Old Century. If you plan to visit and see a show, pm me! You can sit in on classes and get a theatre tour.

Hi all. My D was accepted to MT program last night. Very excited for her. She auditioned at Chicago Unifieds on 2/6.

Good morning, My “D” was also accepted last night, pending academic acceptance. She was a walk-in at LA Unifieds. I actually feel quite lucky that she found it - looks like a great program and we are excited to learn more about it! She loved the director, and the students she met during the audition and interview.

@mtmaybe Thanks for all the valuable information. Can you address renovations going on? There seems to be concerns about the condition of the building dorms etc. also can you describe the theater space? Are there any photos or link I can go to to view rehearsal and performance spaces? Also do the majority of students live on campus? Thanks for any information you can provide

@user_752736 they have an Instagram page, ptcliupost, you can see the space there and LIU Post Newspaper, The Pioneer published this on Feb 6, 2020

My Son is a junior and we are interested in LIU too. Best of luck to you and your child.

If you want the full tea on facilities at post, the students keep an Instagram called everythingbrokenat_post. This is not theater building specific…but campus wide.

@user_752736 my kid is not at LIU, but we visited a couple of years ago. My understanding is that the kids mostly live on campus. The campus is in a very high priced suburban area that’s a ways from the nearest train station so off Campus living isn’t easy unless you have a car.

@mtmaybe, thank you for the information. The school sent some dates to sit in on classes, so we are trying to make that fit our schedule and hope to see the school soon! I’ll let you know!
